Recessions totally bite!

0

I had two aims for 2009...come August I am still no where near either of them: First being, getting promoted and secondly, getting into grad school (for next year).

I spent the first 6 months of the year working my ass off trying to meet my targets (extra incentive for the management to promote me) only to find out that the mid-year promotion cycle had been scrapped altogether (aah the joys of the recession).  Absolutely no word yet on what can be expected at the end of the year (I told my supervisor that i am starting to feel like a total schmuck having spoken to our boss so many times about the promotion), hence 5 more months of depressing waiting is ahead!! im told that i should be thankful for having a job at least! (blah blah blah)

Subsequently i also thought that since job prospects are so bad (I have the choice of a thankless existence at my current job until they finally have no further use of me and give me the boot anyways, or start looking for another job which in the current market is highly unlikely) i might as well use this time to go back to school. Sadly enough that requires far more money than i can ever save, and hence have desperately applied for a scholarship a second time. Interviews have already begun and everyday that goes by that i dont get a call makes me worry more and more!

I am told by many that one should be patient, that good things come to those who wait! Sadly for me, I live in the real world and know that sometimes no matter how hard you work, something just might not work out ur way. Yet here I am, still hopeful that 2009 will bring some good news and it will turn out to be a good year after all!

"Leopold, o' Leopold, Where art thou my Leopold"

0

I saw the movie 'Kate & Leopold' (with the extremely yummy Hugh Jackman) after a very longtime today.

I couldnt help but wonder what a strange world we live in; wouldnt it be nice to have so much faith that we would blindly jump off a bridge because we knew true love was waiting for us. Instead in this cynical world we live in, all most of us can think is the absurdity in doing something like that, that only someone insane would attempt something like that.

Im not saying that we should literally be jumping off bridges (although that has apparently become a sport now), but that maybe we should stop over analysing everything. It seems that the passion from life has been lost because we are too afraid to believe in something so blissful!

It seems one leap of faith is all it takes!

Its scary how short life can be; here one moment, gone within a few seconds!!

A family friend's son had a hemorrhagic stroke today...and he was only 21 years old!! :s As far as I know, it would take a miracle for him to recover. Whatever happens from this point onwards, I pray that he feels no more pain.

Things like these really make you think...live your life as best you can today, for there really may not be a tomorrow after all!

The Cookie Monster Anthem

0

I loved watching Sesame Street while i was growing up. Elmo, Cookie Monster and the count were always my favorite.

I was quite surprised to find out that a few years ago, the Cookie Monster went all healthy just like the rest of the show. Cookies are now only a 'sometime food' and he actually eats eggplants! So no more songs about his cookie addiction, instead he's got a new one.

Funnily enough the he song is a parody of "A Woman is a Sometime Thing," from George and Ira Gershwin's opera "Porgy and Bess".

As glad as I am to see the show promoting healthy eating in children, it almost seems sacrilegious!

Keep off the Grass

0

The word etiquette actually comes from the French word 'etiquet'. Louis XIV's gardener was so annoyed by people walking over his lovingly kept grass that he put up etiquets (signs) to stop people from doing so. Unsuccessful as this move turned out to be, the King of Versailles actually passed a decree banning people from walking beyond the point of where the etiquet was placed. Etiquettes eventually became cards that were given with invitations instructing people on where they should stand and such party guidelines.

One innovative idea that a loving gardner came up with has now become a massive never ending rule book on what behaviour is acceptable! As much as i dislike people openly burping and farting, why must we tie ourselves up with so many constraints in the name of being proper?

Is that really too much to ask?!?!?

2

I now know that it is absolutely unrealistic to expect a guy to call u back on time...they will call u when they want and not a minute sooner so nagging them about it is pointless.

But would it kill u guys to at least reply a message/email (via the half dozen mediums now unfortunately available) within a reasonable timeline (reasonable meaning within a span of 24 hours)!!

Paimona bideh ki khumar hastam
Paimana deday ke khumari hoon main

Man ashiq-e chashm-e mast-e yarastam
Apne yaar ki mast aankhon ka ashiq hoon main

Bideh bideh ki khumar hastam
Deday deday ke khumari hoon main

Paimona bideh ki khumar hastam
Paimana deday ke khumari hoon main

Az amadan-e tagar khabar mi daashtan
Agar teray aanay ka mujhay patha hota

(Antra)

Pesh-e qadamat kucha ra gul mi kashtan
Tere qadmon ke neechay mein gali main phool ugaata

Gul mi kashtan, gul-e gulab mi kashtan
Phool ugata, gulab kay phool ugata.

Khak-e qadamat pad-e dam-e war dashtan
Teray qadmon ki dhool ko apni aankhon par uthata.

(Antra)
Chashmat ki ba ahoo-e Khutan mimanad
Teri aankain Khutan ke Hiran jaisi hain.

Ruyat ba gulab haa-e chaman mimanad
Tera chehra chaman ke pholon jaisa hai.

Gul rob-e kunaid waraq waraq bu-e kunaid
Phool ki patti patti ko soongh kar dekho.

Ba lalaezar be watam mi ayad
Watan ke lalazar ke sath teri khushbo aye gi

"Paimona"

Zeb & Haniya

Im totally in love with this song, both the original and coke studio version!
