...why out of all the things ive done over the past few months (and trust me its been ALOT) , was it this thing

Because you let your boss do the talking! :P In academia, it's a well known thing that the favorite students are the ones that let the professors talk, and talk, and talk some more about their ideas, theories and self-defined explanations. The word for it is - intellectual masturbation.
Perhaps this could be something similar translated in corporate terms? And if you do get a raise spend it on something expensive and prepare to speak even less-er next time! :P
