I lay here wondering whether a broken heart ever really heals!

Do we really get over something so painful, do we learn to deal with the grief and get by somehow, or do we find something else to make us happy to distract us long enough to forget?

Well, i think every pain has a cure and so goes with the broken heart.

Actually pain is nothing more than a feeling. You might have experienced that you are more sensitive when you are alone (physically or emotionally), i.e. when you are in a position to feel more, you want to feel and you start feeling. Now sometimes this feeling could be painful as well. If you have had some happy time in life, you might have experienced the totally opposite behavior of being alone in those times. You might have felt much happy when you are alone. The reason is same, you want to feel and as you are having good times you feel something good.

So best solution for getting rid of any (painful) feelings is to mingle with people. Go to parties, hang out with people you don't know very well. Slowly you would be having a new set of memories to be recalled in the moments when you are alone, and hopefully these "new" memories are not painful.
